Introduction
These are the requirements for the 2024 Cobra Regiment Student Leadership Team application. We are continuing to push the boundaries of our achievement and we are looking for a leadership team that will help us do that. Expectations will continue to go up and we are looking for an even higher degree of professionalism from our student leaders. As you hear me constantly say - You are always auditioning. Your actions, proactivism, reliability, and more are also factored into your application. We are doing a custom show and intend to use audio and props and we will need reliable individuals to help take on these new logistics during the season. Lastly..
NOT WANTING TO TAKE SOMEONE ELSE’S POSITION IS NOT AN ACCEPTABLE REASON TO NOT APPLY. If you genuinely believe you’d be good for a role - GO FOR IT. Our positions are not set in stone and we will prioritize good leaders over a cleanly organized section hierarchy.

General Information
The basic part of the application where you list your name, grade, contact info, what you’re applying for, etc.
Questionnaire
Questions you must answer in the application.
Recommendations
You must get THREE recommendation forms submitted before the application deadline from prominent individuals who understand your work ethic and leadership. TWO must be from a teacher/boss/adult who was in charge of you and ONE must be from another student in band. The form can be found here: https://tinyurl.com/2024CRRecForm
Skill Demonstration
Students must show proficiency in their main instrument. All students must perform a prepared piece of music for Mr. Simmons and the panel during interviews. (Color Guard candidates perform a choreographed performance) Sheet music does not need to be provided. Students who successfully auditioned for DHB or Regionals will have this component waived. Drum Major applicants must conduct a marching band recording to demonstrate their conducting skill. The sound system will be available - please use your own bluetooth capable device.
Service Project *NEW*
Students must complete a project that benefits the band program or community. It must be complete by the March 5th auditions. Examples that have been done in ours or other band programs are repairing all music stands, organizing and hanging up awards, building shelves/storage, or organizing the music library. It is up to you to identify a situation that needs solving or improving and taking action on it.
Interview
Every candidate must go through an interview. Treat this like a job interview. You will be asked questions on your views of leadership, your vision of your section/group/band, what you want to accomplish, etc. You will also be provided an opportunity to ask your own questions as any other interview would.
Possible Positions Available
Drum Major
Captain - Woodwind, Brass, Visual, Music
Section Leader - Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, High Brass, Low Brass, Front Ensemble, Drumline, Color Guard
Managers - Uniform, Bus, Equipment
Summary of Positions
Drum Majors are the conductor and head leader(s) of the band. Leadership, attitude, and professionality are more sought after traits than conducting traits.
Captains are leaders who are responsible for assisting with larger groups or ideas than just their section. Music Captain is expected to know the score, Visual Captain is expected to help with basics and block and be able to demonstrate marching, Woodwind/Brass Captains will run caption rehearsals and be responsible for leading their entire caption.
Section leaders are individual leaders of each instrument section. This includes the Color Guard Captain as the “section leader” of the color guard.
Managers will be students in charge of logistical aspects of the band. Uniform managers will check everyone’s uniform for performances and help maintain them. Bus managers are responsible for headcounts and bus cleanliness when we travel. Equipment managers are in charge of creating rosters for and directing equipment moving for rehearsals, trips, and home games.
Some roles may not be used, some sections may be consolidated, and new roles may be created to best fit the operation of the respective season’s leadership staff class. If the staff feels that multiple members from a single section match the ideals of our leadership team, we will find a role for all of them.
